Technology Labs
Bridging the Digital Divide
SAMBAL Technology Lab is a partnership project between the Saverimuthu Family Foundation and SAMBAL. The lab was developed to overcome the "digital divide" — the discrepancy between underprivileged and privileged children's access to educational technology.
Today, three labs are open in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka, serving hundreds of children who would otherwise have no access to computers or modern educational tools.
The labs offer instruction in English, Computer Science, STEM activities, robotics, and science experiments — all designed to prepare students for the opportunities of the modern world.
Active Technology Labs

Suruvil Technology Lab
The newest SAMBAL Technology Lab, opened in October 2024. Students in Grades 6–10 engage in hands-on STEM activities, science experiments, robotics (including solar-operated robots), and computer skills training. The lab has quickly gained momentum with enthusiastic participation from local children.

Jaffna Technology Lab
The first SAMBAL Technology Lab, established through a partnership with the Saverimuthu Family Foundation. Equipped with 18 state-of-the-art computers, the lab provides access to educational technology for underprivileged children in the Jaffna region. Ten lecturers provide instruction in English and Computer Science.

Northern Province Lab
The third SAMBAL Technology Lab continues the mission of expanding digital access to underserved communities. The lab serves children who would otherwise have no access to computers or internet connectivity, providing them with skills essential for the modern economy.
Connectivity PartnerBringing Satellite Internet
to Every Lab
Our technology labs are located in some of the most remote regions of Sri Lanka's Northern Province — areas where traditional broadband infrastructure does not reach. To solve this, SAMBAL has partnered with SpaceX Starlink, deploying low-earth-orbit satellite internet directly to each of our labs.
With Starlink, our students now have access to the same high-speed, low-latency internet as their peers in major cities. They can browse educational resources, participate in online courses, collaborate on projects, and explore the wider digital world — all from their classroom in the Northern Province.
This connectivity is a transformative step in closing the digital divide, ensuring that geography is no longer a barrier to a world-class education.
